Defining Selfcare - E2 - Rach Royalty

  • Self care is a lifelong journey of holistic wellness” - Rach Royalty, 2022.

Hey selfcare besties!

Thanks for tuning in to another edition of Rach Royalty Weekly. Last week we defined self care and made it personal by defining what self care meant to us. This week our topic is, “Facing the facts - What are you gonna do about it?”

We mentioned a few tips in our previous post, and this week we’ll dive in a bit deeper.

We know what self care is and we are responsible for doing something about it! Evaluate where you are and decide where and WHO you want to be. Be honest with yourself

We’ve created a simple, EASY to follow, 7-step strategy to help you with your self care journey. Let’s dive in!

Step 1: Be Brutally Honest

  • Get your notebook - it can be a physical book or the notes app, as long as you’re documenting the process that’s all that matters.
  • Write down what your life is like now. We’ve saved you the brain power of coming up with what exactly to write besties. So just answer the prompts below in your notes/journal.
    • Spend 2-5 minutes daydreaming about your ideal life
    • Now, back to reality - What do your current days look like?
    • Are you happy with the way you spend your days?
    • What would you like to do with your life?
    • What do your finances look like?
      • Do you have an emergency fund?
      • Are you able to adequately cover your current expenses?
      • Are you living above your means?
      • Do you have a retirement plan?
      • Do you have life/health insurance?
    • What does your spiritual life look like?
      • Do you pray daily?
      • Do you read your bible daily?
      • Do you make a conscious effort to spend time with Jesus?
    • What does your physical life look like?
      • Are you exercising?
      • Are you eating a balanced diet?
        • [P.S: a ‘balanced diet’ is nuanced. Balanced doesn’t mean boring. It doesn’t mean starving and it doesn’t mean vegan. YOU need to determine what a balanced diet is based on your lifestyle, level of physical activity and other factors. If you have difficulty with this, seek the help of a qualified nutritionist.
      • How does your body feel throughout the day?
      • Can you climb a flight of stairs without being severely out of breath?
    • What do your relationships look like with:
      • your friends?
      • Your parents?
      • Your partner/ significant other?
      • Your siblings
      • Your co-workers?
      • Random people you meet? (i.e are you (reasonably) kind to strangers? Or unnecessarily mean?)
    • If your current situation remains the same, where will you end up in 10 years?
    • When you die how do you want to be remembered?
    • Are you happy with the way your life is right now?
    • What would you like to change about your life?
    • What would you like to change about yourself?
    • What are 10 (or more) things you’d like to do/accomplish before you die?
    • What’s stopping you from accomplishing the 10 (or more) things you just listed?
    • What can you do about the reasons you listed above? I.e you know what’s stopping you, how can you fix it?
    • What can you do right now (in 2 minutes or less) to work towards being the best version of yourself?
    • Make a list of at least 50 things you’d like to accomplish in life before you die
    • Make another list of ways you can go about accomplish your 50+ goals
    • Pick 2-3 items from your list of 50+ things and spend 2-30 minutes at least three times a week working towards them.
    • Create your own self care regimen. Skincare, exercise, going to church, checking up on friends, journalling, making more money. It’s up to you! Create your own regimen and stick to it! Outline what you'll do, when (time/days), and how frequently you'll do it.

  • Whew chile that was a mouth full. That list is NOWHERE near exhaustive! If you’d like to chat more about this and need a listening ear as you work through your goals contact us! Leave a comment below, DM us, email us: your Royalty Fam is ready to be there for you on your selfcare journey!

Step 2: We have a clear picture: Action time!

  • One of the last prompts we gave was to pick 2-3 items from your list of 50+ things and spend 2-30 minutes at least three times a week working towards them.
  • Our recommendation is to spend 2 minutes on 1 goal for a week. Why? Train your mind and body to show up. Form the foundation of a good habit and then keep increasing the time in a way that’s manageable for you so you don’t give up.

Step 3: Seek reinforcement

  • Studies show that you’re more likely to stick to your goals if you're being held accountable! Share your goals with selective, trusted confidants and ask them to help keep you in check!
  • If you’re one of the ‘move in silence’ ones - I got you! See step 4!

Step 4: Use technology to make your life easier!

  • As an alternative option to sharing your goals with confidants you can use a habit tracker or other apps (My FitnessPal for health goals, etc)
  • Notion is a great option to help keep your life organized and they have a habit tracker template that’s ready for you to use!

Step 5: Create and curate an environment that fosters thriving, not surviving.

  • It doesn’t have to be the typical social media home aesthetic. Your home can be curated however you like. Need a meditation corner? Make one. It doesn’t have to be expensive, work with what you have. Need a prayer corner? Make one. Need some candles? Get some. Need a nice quote? Print one (self care on a budget).
  • If you live in a shared space or a toxic environment try finding a spot that you can curate for yourself.
  • If that’s impossible - use the bathroom. No, not literally 😂(but if you actually have to go, go). Most persons get privacy when using the bathroom, so get a candle and a nice picture and sit in the bathroom and enjoy your own company for a minute.

Step 6: Re-evaluate, adjust and keep it pushing

  • If a part of your self care regimen isn’t working don’t quit, adjust. As the times and seasons of your life change you will have to make adjustments. That’s okay. Life is unpredictable.

Step 7: Gorgeous, gorgeous girls don’t quit

There will be good days.

There will be bad days.

In the grand scheme of things just show up. On the good and bad days, be there. Ride out the storms and keep your head high, knowing that you’re committed to showing up in all ways for yourself until you take your last breath.

Waow. This week’s edition is a bit longer but you know what… I had fun writing it and I hope this blog post helped you on your self care journey. If it did let us know in the comment section below!
